Til ki Barfi with Milk Powder | Til Burfi Recipe

Til ki barfi ( तिल की बर्फी ) is one of the most popular sweet in Indian cuisine. This winter special sweet is prepared with sesame seeds (til), mawa, sugar and dry fruits. Here this recipe is about how to make til barfi using milk powder if you don’t have mawa at home. Preparation of mawa or khoya takes lots of time and effort but you can make this til burfi very instantly by this method.

Sesame seeds or til have nutritious property. They are rich sources of calcium, iron and fibres. Til I barfi is an easy to make recipe. It can be prepared on the occasion of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. To make til ki barfi, til is roasted till they become puffy and light brown. Milk, milk powder and ghee is cooked to get condensed milk consistency. Then it is combined with roasted til, sugar and dry fruits and cooked until it reaches a consistency so that you can make barfi. It can be flavored with cardamom powder or kewra.

Ingredients:

¾ cup til (sesame seeds)
1 tsp. ghee
1 glass full fat milk
1 cup milk powder
1/2 cup sugar powder
1 tbsp. chopped almonds
1 tbsp. chopped pistachio
¾ tsp. cardamom powder

Instructions:

Apply ghee on a container and keep aside.
Dry roast til in a pan on low to medium flame till they become light brown and fluffy.


Transfer into a bowl and keep aside.


Heat a pan on medium flame. Add ghee, milk and milk powder. 



Cook on medium flame and stir continuously to remove lumps. 


Cook until mixture thickens. Keep stirring so that it will not stick at the bottom.


Add sugar powder and mix. 


Add roasted til and chopped cashews and almonds. Mix to combine all.


Cook till mixture become thick and gets the consistency of barfi. Turn off flame.
Add Cardamom powder and mix well.


Pour the mixture into greased container.
Pet to level. Leave to cool down and set. 


Cut into pieces of desired size.
Garnish with sliced almonds.


Til ki barfi is ready.


Tips:

  • You may use condensed milk in place of milk powder. If you are using condensed milk, reduce the amount of sugar.
  • You may use nuts of your choice.
  • Stir continuously the mixture while cooking otherwise it will become stick at the bottom.
